- Das Amerikanische Generalkonsulat in Frankfurt vertritt die Interessen der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika in West- und Süddeutschland und ist eine von insgesamt sechs US-Vertretungen in Deutschland. Der Konsularbezirk umfasst neben Hessen die Länder Rheinland-Pfalz, Baden-Württemberg und das Saarland. Das Generalkonsulat ist für die in der Region lebenden Amerikaner zuständig, vor allem die vielen in der Region stationierten Angestellten der amerikanischen Streitkräfte und ihre Familien. Darüber hinaus sind dort weltweite Funktionen wie das Beschaffungswesen angesiedelt. Patricia Lacina ist seit Sommer 2018 US-Generalkonsulin in Frankfurt am Main; sie ist Nachfolgerin von James W. Herman. Das Konsulat ist sowohl in Bezug auf Gebäude als auch der Anzahl der Mitarbeiter das größte amerikanische Konsulat und eine der größten Auslandsvertretungen weltweit. Insgesamt werden rund 900 Mitarbeiter beschäftigt. Das Frankfurter Generalkonsulat hatte von 1956 bis 2005 seinen Sitz in der Siesmayerstraße 21 (Westend). Das fünfgeschossige Gebäude entstand 1953 bis 1955 nach Plänen des Architektenbüros Skidmore, Owings and Merrill unter Mitwirkung von Otto Apel und steht seit 1986 unter Denkmalschutz. Nach dem Umzug des Generalkonsulats wurde es von 2005 bis 2007 saniert und dient seitdem als Bürogebäude. Seit 2005 befindet sich das Konsulat in einem ehemaligen US-Militärkrankenhaus im Stadtteil Nordend an der Grenze zu Eckenheim und Preungesheim. An diesem weitläufigen Standort zwischen und Homburger Landstraße in der Nähe der Friedberger Warte können die höchsten US-Sicherheitsstandards eingehalten werden. - The Consulate General of the United States in Frankfurt am Main represents the interests of the United States government in Frankfurt, Germany and nearby surrounding areas. It is the United States' largest Consulate General, and is larger, in terms of both personnel and facilities, than many U.S. Embassies. Technically a part of Mission Germany, and reporting through the Embassy of the United States in Berlin, the Frankfurt Consulate General operates with a significant degree of autonomy when compared to other U.S. Consulates. This is due in part to several large U.S. government regional centers housed within the Consulate, which provide support in the areas of security, construction, and financial matters to a number of other U.S Diplomatic posts located throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In 2006 the Frankfurt Consulate General relocated most all of its operations to a single facility - a former hospital, once operated by the U.S military, and before that by the German military during World War II. The refurbished and now modified building is quite large and expansive. The Frankfurt Consular district covers the German states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, and Saarland. (en)
