- Ein Committer (englisch für Eintrager) ist eine Person bei einem Open-Source-Projekt, die Schreibrechte für den Quelltext im Versionsverwaltungssystem hat. Üblicherweise sind die Committer die Hauptentwickler des Projekts. Nachdem eine beabsichtigte Änderung am Quelltext von der Projektgemeinschaft erfolgreich geprüft worden ist, speichert ein Committer sie im Versionsverwaltungssystem; diese Speicherung wird als Commit bezeichnet. So können auch Personen ohne Schreibberechtigung, die Contributors, Änderungen beitragen. Um Committer zu werden, muss man üblicherweise über längere Zeit signifikante Beiträge zum Projekt geleistet haben, wozu nicht nur Arbeiten am Quelltext, sondern auch Aktivitäten in den Mailinglisten und im Bugtracker zählen. To contribute source code to most large software projects, one must make modifications and then "commit" those changes to a central version control system, such as Git (or CVS). In open-source software development, the committer role may be used to distinguish commit access, a specific type of responsibility, from other forms of contribution, such as triaging issues or organizing events.
