- A col, also called saddle point or neutral point, is in meteorology, the point of intersection of a trough and a ridge in the pressure pattern of a weather map. It takes the form of a saddle where the air pressure is relatively higher than that of the low-pressure regions, but lower than that of the anticyclonic zones. In a barometric col, the winds are relatively calm and varying in direction. The weather is also unsettle and favorable for winter fog or summer storms due to the accumulation of moisture in the air mass due to lack of ventilation. It is thus often the position of a stationary or quasi-stationary front. (en)

- Un col barométrique est une zone située entre des dépressions et des anticyclones disposés en croix. Sur une carte des isobares de pression, il prend la forme d'une selle où la pression de l'air est légèrement plus élevée que celle des régions dépressionnaires, mais plus basse que celle des zones anticycloniques. Dans cette zone, les vents sont relativement calmes et de direction variable. Le temps y est également variable. Cet endroit précis est favorable aux brouillards en hiver et aux orages en été à cause de l'accumulation d'humidité dans l'air qu'on y retrouve à cause du manque de ventilation. (fr)
- Een zadelgebied (Engels: col of saddle point) is een overgangsgebied in de vorm van een zadel dat zich bevindt op de kruising van twee hogedrukgebieden en twee lagedrukgebieden. Een zadelgebied heeft een instromingsas en een uitstromingsas. Het snijpunt van deze twee assen is het zadelpunt waar het windstil is. Op Nederlandse weerkaarten wordt dit gebied wel aangeduid met een Z. (nl)
