- The coat of arms of the Kingdom of Holland, a client state of Napoleon Bonaparte's French Empire which encompassed most of the modern-day state of the Netherlands, was instituted in 1806. When the Emperor Napoleon proposed that his younger brother Louis Napoleon Bonaparte should become the king of a new kingdom, a state that would replace and succeed the age-old Dutch republic, at that time called the "Batavian Republic". He chose the name "Holland", after the most important province, as "Hollande" was much used in France as a name for the Netherlands. The statute described the royal arms and mentioned a royal crown. On 20 May 1807 a precise drawing of the royal coat of arms was approved by the king. The crown was topped with an orb with a cross. In practice crowns without a cross became part of the crosses of Louis' Order of Knighthood, the Order of the Union, and the new coins. The second coat of arms, approved on 6 February 1806, showed no cross. As the country was ruined by the Napoleonic wars and the resulting lack of trade there was no opportunity for a coronation. The crown existed on paper alone until the French annexed the country in 1810. In 1813 the Dutch "chose" a new sovereign ruler, later king, William I who had a new crown, the crown of the Netherlands designed and wrought in gilded silver. (en)
- In het van 24 mei 1805 liet Napoleon I niet alleen vastleggen dat het Bataafs Gemenebest het Koninkrijk Holland zou zijn, hij liet met de hem kenmerkende aandacht voor de details ook het wapen en de kroon van de nieuwe koning beschrijven. Een "Koninklijke kroon" moest het wapen dekken. Met een dergelijke kroon zal een beugelkroon zijn bedoeld. De in 1806 goedgekeurde tekeningen laten een kroon met als hoogste punt een rijksappel met kruis zien. In de praktijk werd steeds een andere kroon (zonder kruis) op munten, afbeeldingen en als verhoging van de kruisen van de Orde van de Unie gebruikt. Het is niet bekend of hier een staatkundige reden voor is aangewend. Mr. O. Schutte oppert in zijn "De Orde van de Unie" dat de onvolledige soevereiniteit van Holland reden geweest kan zijn. Een bron voor deze speculatie ontbreekt. In de tekening van het 2e Hollandse rijks- en koningswapen zoals dat op 6 februari 1806 werd goedgekeurd ontbreekt het kruis. Er zijn geen aanwijzingen dat ook aan het smeden van een kroon is begonnen. (nl)

Quando Napoleone Bonaparte propose a suo fratello minore Luigi di diventare re di un nuovo regno che avrebbe sostituito la Repubblica batava, scelse il nome di Regno d'Olanda. Uno statuto descrisse lo stemma e la corona regale del nuovo stato. Il 20 maggio 1807 un disegno dello stemma reale venne approvato dal re. La corona era sormontata da un globo con una croce. Un secondo statuto, approvato il 6 febbraio 1806, non prevedeva invece la croce sul globo. Successivamente, nel 1813, i Paesi Bassi scelsero un nuovo sovrano, Guglielmo I, il quale fece realizzare dei nuovi stemmi regali in sostituzione di quelli napoleonici. (it)
