- Cloperastine (INN) or cloperastin, in the forms of cloperastine hydrochloride (JAN) (brand names Hustazol, Nitossil, Seki) and cloperastine fendizoate (or hybenzoate), is an antitussive and antihistamine that is marketed as a cough suppressant in Japan, Hong Kong, and in some European countries. - La cloperastina es un fármaco antitusígeno que actúa sobre el sistema nervioso central. También presenta cierta actividad antihistamínica y reductora de los espasmos bronquiales. El efecto de la cloperastina aparece a los 20-30 minutos de su administración y dura unas 3-4 horas. La cloperastina no crea adicción, pero puede provocar somnolencia y se recomienda precaución en la conducción y el manejo de vehículos. Es un medicamento antitusígeno que tiene doble acción, una acción central selectiva sobre el centro bulbar de la tos, (sin alterar los centros ni las vías respiratorias), y una acción periférica que actúa localmente, en el punto donde se produce la irritación, reduciendo la inflamación e irritación de la mucosa respiratoria, lo que permite su utilización como tratamiento sintomático de la tos de cualquier etiología.

Il farmaco agisce sul sistema nervoso centrale inibendo il centro della tosse a livello bulbare. - Cloperastine is een niet-sederend antitussivum (niet-verdovend hoestmiddel) dat aangewezen is bij een hinderlijke hoest die niet gepaard gaat met het ophoesten van slijm (een zogenaamde 'niet-productieve hoest'). Het middel bezit zowel een centrale als een perifere werking. Cloperastine werkt rechtstreeks in op het in de medulla oblongata gelegen hoestcentrum van de hersenen. Perifeer berust de werking voornamelijk op de antihistaminerge werking van cloperastine die bronchospasmen veroorzaakt door histamine kan opheffen. Tevens bezit de stof anticholinerge eigenschappen die normaal alleen bij een overdosering tot uiting komen. Cloperastine is het actieve bestandsdeel van onder andere Lysotossil, dat in België als hoestmiddel zonder voorschrift verkrijgbaar is bij de apotheker. (nl)
