- في الفيزياء النظرية، يكون عامل تشان-باتون (بالإنجليزية: Chan-Paton factor) هو مؤشر متعدد القيم مرتبط بنقاط نهاية . يمكن أن يُفسر الوترالمفتوح على أنه أنبوب تدفق يربط الكوارك وجسيماتها المضادة. إن عاملي تشان-باتون يجعلان من التحويل الوتري كتنسور تحت التي تكون شحناتها محمولة بواسطة نقاط النهاية للأوتار. بعد Second Superstring Revolution في عام 1995، فُسرت عوامل تشان-باتون كعلامات تُحدِد ماذا سيتصل مع نقاط النهاية الوترية (ثغرات الزمكان). والآن أصبحت عوامل تشان-باتون حالة خاصة لمفهوم أعم. - In theoretical physics, the Chan–Paton factor (named after Jack E. Paton and Hong-Mo Chan) is a multivalued index associated with the endpoints of an open string. An open string can be interpreted as a flux tube connecting a quark and its antiparticle. The two Chan–Paton factors make the string transform as a tensor under a gauge group whose charges are carried by the endpoints of the strings. The procedure of enabling isospin factors to be added to the Veneziano model is known as Chan–Paton rules or Chan–Paton method. After the second superstring revolution in 1995, Chan–Paton factors are interpreted as labels that identify which (spacetime-filling) D-branes the stringy endpoints are attached to. The Chan–Paton factors have become a special case of a more general concept. (en)
- In fisica teorica, il fattore di Chan-Paton è un indice con molti valori associati con gli estremi di una stringa aperta. Una stringa aperta può essere interpretata come un "tubo di flusso" collegato ad un quark ad un estremo e al suo corrispondente antiquark all'altro estremo. I fattori di Chan-Paton permettono di considerare una generica trasformazione della stringa come un tensore con un gruppo di gauge le cui cariche sono relative agli estremi delle stringhe. Dopo la seconda rivoluzione delle superstringhe del 1995, i fattori di Chan-Paton vengono interpretati come le "etichette" che servono a collegare le stringhe e le diverse D-brane, nel senso che se si prendono, ad esempio, due D-brane, si possono immaginare delle stringhe aperte che colleghino le due brane e i fattori di Chan-Paton servono proprio per identificare le stringhe che colleghino queste D-brane.
