- Τσακάνα (Chakana) ονομάζεται ένα σύμβολο των Άνδεων. Στη γλώσσα Κέτσουα, υποδηλώνει το Σταυρό του Νότου και συμβολίζει τους τρεις στύλους του κόσμου των Ίνκας: τον Κάτω Κόσμο (Ukhu Pacha), τον παρόντα κόσμο (Kay Pacha) και τον (Hanan Pacha). Τα τρία επίπεδα επίσης συμβολίζονται από το φίδι, το πούμα και τον κόνδορα. Το σύμβολο εντοπίζεται σε κτίρια, ναούς και θρησκευτικά ιερά των Ίνκας, αλλά επίσης αναπαρίσταται σε έργα τέχνης και κοσμήματα. - The chakana (or Inca Cross) is a stepped cross made up of an equal-armed cross indicating the cardinal points of the compass and a superimposed square. The square is suggested to represent the other two levels of existence. The three levels of existence are Hana Pacha (the upper world inhabited by the superior gods), Kay Pacha, (the world of our everyday existence) and Ukhu or Urin Pacha (the underworld inhabited by spirits of the dead, the ancestors, their overlords and various deities having close contact to the Earth plane). The hole through the centre of the cross is the Axis by means of which the shaman transits the cosmic vault to the other levels. It is also said to represent Cusco, the center of the Incan empire, and the Southern Cross constellation. (en)
- Das Andenkreuz (Quechua: tawa chakana) ist ein im Hochland Boliviens und Perus gebräuchliches Symbol, das von den Inka verwendet wurde, jedoch auf vorinkaische Kulturen zurückgeht. Beispielsweise verwendete bereits die Tiwanaku-Kultur dieses Symbol. Das Andenkreuz ist eines der am weitesten verbreiten, wenn auch am wenigsten verstandenen Symbole der Tiwanaku-Ikonografie. Der Archäologe Alan Kolata nimmt an, dass der Grundriss von Akapana ein halbes Andenkreuz darstellt. Die vier Richtungen symbolisieren dabei die vier Himmelsrichtungen des Inkareiches, das Loch in der Mitte den Nabel der Welt – Qusqu (Cusco), die Hauptstadt der Inka. Die Stufung zwischen den Balken stehen für die Dreiteilung der Welt in Unterwelt (Ukhu Pacha), Welt der Menschen (Kay Pacha) und Götterwelt bzw. oberer Welt (Hanaq Pacha). Das Andenkreuz beinhaltet in Kurzform das komplette Leben der Inka. So symbolisieren die drei Stufen neben den drei verschiedenen Welten auch deren tierische Repräsentanten. Der Kondor verkörpert die Götterwelt zugleich mit der Gerechtigkeit. Die Welt der Menschen symbolisiert der Puma, der für Stärke steht, und die Unterwelt verkörpert die Schlange und ihre Weisheit. - Chacana es un término quechua que significa «escalera» u «objeto a modo de puente», (del aimara: pusi chakani ‘la de los cuatro puentes’) «cruz andina» o «cruz cuadrada». La chakana es un símbolo milenario aborigen de los pueblos indígenas de los Andes centrales en los territorios donde se desarrollaron tanto la cultura inca (sur de Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, oeste de Bolivia, Chile y Argentina) como algunas culturas preíncas (Perú y Bolivia). Es posible que en Ancash, Huánuco y Nor Lima precolombinos se haya nombrado tsakana. La chakana posee una antigüedad mayor de 4000 años, según el arquitecto Carlos Milla. Hoy en día, la cultura aimara sigue reproduciendo el gráfico de la chakana en sus telas. Igualmente, los aimara aún conservan el calendario lunar de 13 meses con 28 días cada mes, empleado por los antepasados: 13 por 28 sale 364, el día 365 era considerado el día cero, algo así como una especie del inicial del año nuevo andino. Ese día es el 3 de mayo, que es cuando la Cruz del Sur adquiere la forma astronómica (geométrica) de una cruz latina perfecta. (es)
