- The Campagna and Marittima Province (Latin Campaniæ Maritimæque Provincia, Italian Provincia di Campagna e Marittima) was one of the seven provinces of the Papal States from the 12th century to the end of the 18th. The province was established by Pope Innocent III in the year 1198, with Frosinone as its capital. Innocent's aim was to counter atemmpts to achieve self-government in some of the towns in the south of his domains, such as Alatri, Ferentino, Velletri and Terracina, by installing a garrison at Ferentino. Even before that the "Province of the Roman Campagna and Marittima Province' was part of the Patrimony of St Peter. In 1357, the establishment of the province was confirmed by the Constitutiones Sanctæ Matris Ecclesiæ. The province was administered by a class of feudal 'Roman barons'. (en)

Celle-ci s’étendait dans le Latium, du sud/sud-est de Rome et d’Ostie arrosés par le Tibre inférieur, vers les confins de la Campanie c’est-à-dire la vallée du Liri et la ville de Terracina, plus l’enclave de la ville de Bénévent. - La Campagna e Marittima (Campaniæ Maritimæque provincia in latino) è stata una divisione amministrativa dello Stato Pontificio, estesa, in origine, da Roma e Ostia Antica, poi dai Colli Albani, alla Valle del Liri e a Terracina. In cartografia è anche conosciuta come Campagna di Roma. Per un breve periodo nel XV secolo la provincia fu divisa amministrativamente in Campagna e Marittima. La città meridionale di Terracina, seppur inclusa nei limiti geografici della provincia, ebbe delegati pontifici che la governarono autonomamente durante tutto il Medioevo (lo stesso accadde anche per Pontecorvo e Benevento, entrambe exclavi dello Stato Pontificio).
