- Ο Καλλίνικος Α΄ ήταν Πατριάρχης Κωνσταντινουπόλεως από το 693 μέχρι το 705. Πριν την εκλογή του στον Πατριαρχικό Θρόνο, διετέλεσε ιερέας και Σκευοφύλακας του Ναού των Βλαχερνών στην Κωνσταντινούπολη. Συνετέλεσε στην ανατροπή του Αυτοκράτορα Ιουστινιανού Β' του Ρινότμητου, συντασσόμενος με τον αντίπαλο και διάδοχό του Λεόντιο. Όταν όμως ο Ιουστινιανός Β' επανήλθε στην εξουσία, δίωξε τον Καλλίνικο. - Kallinikos I (? – 23 August 705) was the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 693 to 705. Callinicus helped to depose Emperor Justinian II and place Leontios on the Byzantine throne. Upon Justinian's triumphant return to Constantinople and reinstatement as Emperor, Callinicus was arrested and blinded before being imprisoned in a monastery. He is recognized as a saint by the Eastern Orthodox Church; his feast day is celebrated on August 23. (en)

Bevor er Patriarch wurde, war er Priester an der Kirche der Heiligen Gottesmutter von Blachernae, einer der bedeutendsten Kirchen in Konstantinopel. Als Patriarch geriet er mit Kaiser Justinian II. aneinander, als dieser eine Kirche niederreißen ließ, um einen Palast zu bauen. Er unterstützte Kaiser Leontios, der Justinian 695 absetzte und verbannte. Als Justinian zehn Jahre später Konstantinopel wieder eroberte, rächte er sich, obwohl er einen Eid geschworen hatte, niemandem etwas anzutun. Er ließ den Patriarchen blenden und in Rom lebendig einmauern. Nach vierzig Tagen brach die Mauer ein. Kallinikos lebte noch, starb aber wenige Tage darauf. Papst Johannes VI. ließ Kallinikos in der Kirche der Apostel in Rom begraben, aufgrund eines Traums, in dem ihm die Apostel Petrus und Paulus erschienen seien und ihm das befohlen hätten. Der orthodoxe Gedenktag von Kallinikos ist am 23. August. (de)

- Calínico I de Constantinopla foi o patriarca de Constantinopla de 693 a 705, durante um conturbado período conhecido como Anarquia de vinte anos. Inicialmente um presbítero da Igreja de Santa Maria de Blaquerna, foi elevado com a morte do patriarca Paulo III (687–693). Nesta época, o imperador Justiniano II (r. 685–695) comprometeu-se com a construção de um palácio próximo à igreja de Maria, o que demandava a demolição do edifício. O imperador ordenou que o patriarca lhe desse sua benção por desmantelá-la, porém Calínico recusou-se ao alegar que orava somente pela construção de igrejas, não pela destruição delas. Tempos depois destes eventos, Justiniano II foi vítima de um golpe no qual Calínico tomou parte. O imperador foi exilado para o Quérson, onde foi vítima rinocopia (corte do nariz). Em seu lugar assumiu Leôncio (r. 695–698). Em 705, quando Justiniano retornou triunfalmente para Constantinopla e reascendeu ao trono, Calínico foi preso, cegado e confinado a um mosteiro. Ele é reconhecido como um santo pela Igreja Ortodoxa e sua festa é celebrada no dia 23 de agosto. (pt)
