- Caesarsboom (Caesarův strom) je velmi starý strom. Přesné stáří je neznámé, ale údajně je více než 2000 let starý. Strom roste ve městě Lo, což je část obce Lo-Reninge, v provincii Západní Flandry v Belgii. Jedná se o tis červený (Taxus baccata). Strom je národním Belgie. Podle prastaré místní legendy se Julius Caesar během vojenské výpravy do Británie roku 55 př. Kr. zastavil u tohoto stromu, uvázal k němu svého koně a odpočinul si pod tímto stromem. Navzdory tomu, že okolo tohoto stromu vedla římská cesta, je nepravděpodobné, že tudy Julius Caesar procházel. Strom roste vedle poslední zachovalé městské brány. Vedle této také existovaly další tři. Tyto brány pocházely z období středověku ze 14. století a byly obnoveny v letech 1852 a 1991. Strom stojí nedaleko domu zvaného "Het Damberd" (Šachovnicový dům), který je podle písemných zmínek z roku 1499 nejstarší pivovar, který ve městě Lo existoval. (cs)
- Caesarsboom (Caesar's Tree) is a very old tree whose precise age is unknown but is believed to be over 2000 years in age. The ancient tree grows in Lo, a town in Lo-Reninge, a municipality of the province of West-Vlaanderen of Belgium. Its species is Taxus baccata, common name European Yew. The tree is designated a national monument of Belgium. According to a long-held local legend, Julius Caesar stopped at this tree during his military campaign in the area en route to Britannia in 55 BC, tied his horse to it, and took a nap in the shadow of its foliage. According to one source, although the road passing by the tree might date from the era of Imperial Rome, it is not likely that Julius Caesar came to this area. The tree grows beside the last extant city gate, of four medieval arches built in the 14th century (and restored both in 1852 and 1991); at the time the town was less than 400 meters in diameter. Caesarsboom stands adjacent to a house called "Het Damberd" ("The Draught-board House") which written sources from 1499 show once housed the oldest of the four breweries which used to exist in the town of Lo. De naam verwijst naar een legende over Julius Caesar, die in 55 v.Chr. op weg naar Brittannia een dutje zou hebben gedaan onder de boom en er zijn paard aan zou hebben vastgebonden. Het verhaal gaat terug op de geschiedschrijver Jean-Baptiste Gramaye, die in 1612 als eerste Caesar in Lo liet passeren. In werkelijkheid is de Caesarsboom ongeveer 250 jaar oud. Op een schilderij uit het einde van de 18e eeuw is zijn voorganger te zien in volle wasdom. De kruin is in de twintigste eeuw nog stevig gegroeid, wat erop duidt dat de plant nog in goede gezondheid verkeerde. Tegenwoordig is de holle stam dichtgemetseld en worden de takken met bandijzers ondersteund. De stam heeft een omtrek van zo'n 2,8 meter. (nl)
