- 8′-Apo-β-carotin-8′-al ist ein Apocarotinoid. Es kommt natürlich z. B. in Orangen, Gemüse und Leber vor, wird jedoch heute hauptsächlich synthetisch hergestellt. Es wird in der Lebensmittelindustrie als gelber bis roter Farbstoff eingesetzt. In der EU ist es als Lebensmittelzusatzstoff der Nummer E 160e zugelassen. - Apocarotenal, or trans-β-apo-8'-carotenal, is a carotenoid found in spinach and citrus fruits. Like other carotenoids, apocarotenal plays a role as a precursor of vitamin A, even though it has 50% less pro-vitamin A activity than β-carotene. The empirical chemical formula for apocarotenal is C30H40O. Apocarotenal has an orange to orange-red colour and is used in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products. Depending on the product forms, apocarotenal is used in fat based food (margarine, sauces, salad dressing), beverages, dairy products and sweets. Its E number is E160e and it is approved for usage as a food additive in the US, EU and Australia and New Zealand. (en)

- β-Apo-8′-karotenal, E160e – organiczny związek chemiczny z grupy apokarotenoidów (podgrupa karotenoidów). Naturalny lub syntetyczny, pomarańczowożółty barwnik spożywczy. Jak inne karotenoidy, jest źródłem witaminy A, choć w o połowę mniejszym stopniu, niż β-karoten. W przyrodzie występuje w wielu roślinach (głównie w szpinaku i cytrusach), a także w wątrobie. Do celów przemysłowych wykorzystuje się głównie odmianę syntetyczną. Znajduje zastosowanie głównie w przemyśle spożywczym, do barwienia takich produktów jak: kremowe serki do smarowania pieczywa, sery w plastrach, sery topione czy sosy sałatkowe. Jego dopuszczalne dzienne spożycie wynosi 2,5 mg/kg ciała. Jest uznawany za nieszkodliwy w zastosowaniach spożywczych, jedynie wysokie stężenie tego związku w organizmie może powodować żółte przebarwienia skóry. (pl)
