- C.N. Liew (Chinese: 劉慶倫; pinyin: líu qìng lún) is born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His ancestral roots hails from Shenzhen Bao'an. C.N. is a pioneer in the field of Contemporary Ink in South East Asia. CN is the first Contemporary Ink artist in the history of National Art Gallery Malaysia (Balai Seni Negara) to have Solo Exhibition and also the first to have a talk of Contemporary Ink . Asia Weekly named C.N. Liew as the “World Outstanding Young Leaders Award” winner in the year 2016 for his contributions to art and among his many accolades, he was the first artist of Chinese descent in Malaysia to be collected by the Royal Palace of Malaysia. Various renown Archives such as Asia Art Archive (AAA), National Art Gallery of Malaysia Artists Archive, Beijing KUART have documented, showcased and featured his works. In 2005, C.N. Liew's “Surrealligraphy” won the “Special Award of the First Seoul International Calligraphy Biennial” In his ascendancy, C.N. Liew became the first Malaysian artist to exhibit at Art Basel, Fine Art Asia, Art Miami, Ink Asia since year 2012 and received numerous distinctions from overseas institutions and his art collected by Palace, Museums, Institutes, Embassies, Cooperates and distinguished personalities. His creativity spans across various forms of art such as contemporary ink, mixed media , contemporary calligraphy, sculpture and collaboration with musicals, contemporary dance and fashion. C.N. achieved the harmonic balance between the value of traditional and contemporary thoughts and merged them into his own distinctive style. His latest series on mixed media titled “Beyond The Borders” where he touches on the values of conflict and harmony. “The Rocks” series where C.N. explores the concept of material vs transience in his reflection of modernity. “The Great Refinement” series shows the nuances of absolute creativity and the tranquillity of simplicity which stirs the consciousness. C.N. has been featured prominently for the past 20 years by various media platforms and journals showcasing his evolving creativity.
