- وُقعت الاتفاقية الحدودية لعام 1874 بين تشيلي وبوليفيا -والمعروفة أيضًا باسم اتفاقية سوكري- في السادس من أغسطس عام 1874 في مدينة سوكري عاصمة بوليفيا، ووقعها كل من وزير الخارجية البوليفي ماريانو بابتيستا والمفوض التشيلي كارلوس ووكر مارتينيز. سبقت هذه الاتفاقية اتفاقية عام 1866 الحدودية بين تشيلي وبوليفيا وأبقت على الحدود بين البلدين على الخط العرضي الجنوبي بدرجة 24 بين المحيط الهادئ والحدود الشرقية لتشيلي. ألغت هذه الاتفاقية نظام جمع الضرائب الثنائي على الصادرات من المعادن المستخرجة بين الخطين العرضيين الجنوبيين 23 و 25، كما تعهدت بوليفيا بشكل واضح في المادة الرابعة من الاتفاقية بعدم زيادة الضرائب الموجودة مسبقًا على رأس المال والصناعات التشيلية لمدة 25 سنة. من أجل تثبيت احتكارها لسوق نترات البوتاسيوم، حاولت بيرو منع توقيع الاتفاقية بشتى الوسائل دون جدوى. في فبراير من عام 1878، فرضت بوليفيا ضريبة جديدة على النترات وفي العام التالي اندلعت حرب المحيط الهادئ. تعتبر اتفاقية عام 1874 في سبيل فهم أسباب الحرب، لأنها وضعت أساس الموقف القانوني الذي وجد بين البلدين عند اندلاع الحرب. - The Boundary Treaty of 1874 between Chile and Bolivia, also called the Treaty of Sucre, was signed in Sucre on August 6, 1874 by the Bolivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariano Baptista and the Chilean plenipotentiary minister Carlos Walker Martínez. It superseded the Boundary Treaty of 1866 between Chile and Bolivia and it kept the border between both countries at the 24° South parallel from the Pacific Ocean to the eastern border of Chile. The Treaty abolished the zone of bipartite tax collection on the export dues on minerals found between parallel 23°S and 25°S, and Bolivia promised explicitly in article 4 of the Treaty not to augment the existing taxes for twenty-five years on Chilean capital and industry. To realize its Saltpeter Monopoly, Peru tried fruitless to prevent the signing of the treaty. In February 1878, Bolivia imposed a new tax upon saltpeter and one year later began the War of the Pacific. The Treaty of 1874 is of capital importance in the understanding of the causes of the War, because it established the legal position that existed between both countries when that war brokeout. (en)
- El Tratado de Límites entre la República de Chile y la República de Bolivia de 1874 es un tratado internacional suscrito el 6 de agosto de 1874 en la ciudad de Sucre, Bolivia, por Mariano Baptista y Carlos Walker Martínez, en representación de Bolivia y Chile, respectivamente, que sustituyó el anterior de 1866. Este tratado fijó la línea fronteriza entre ambos países en el paralelo 24°S, eliminando la medianería o mancomunidad de derechos establecida en el tratado de 1866, sobre los productos provenientes de la explotación y los derechos de exportación percibidos sobre minerales extraídos en el territorio comprendido entre los paralelos 23ºS a 25ºS, con excepción del guano. Además, Bolivia se obligó a no aumentar durante 25 años los derechos de exportación sobre minerales explotados, en el territorio situado entre los paralelos 23ºS y 24ºS, a las personas, capitales y negocios chilenos, quienes no quedarían sujetos a más tributos que los entonces existentes, durante el antedicho periodo. El incumplimiento de esta última cláusula en 1879 fue el detonante o casus belli de la Guerra del Pacífico. (es)
