- Die Botanical Society of the British Isles (Abkürzung BSBI; deutsch „Botanische Gesellschaft der Britischen Inseln“) ist eine wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für an der Flora der Britischen Inseln Interessierte. Die Gesellschaft wurde 1836 als Botanical Society of London gegründet. Ihr gehören sowohl professionelle Mitglieder als auch Amateure an. Sie ist nach Mitgliederzahl die größte botanische Organisation auf den Britischen Inseln. Die BSBI gibt Atlanten und Floraübersichten, etwa für einzelne Countys, mit Verbreitungsangaben der Pflanzen heraus. Sie gibt die botanische Zeitschrift Watsonia und die BSBI News (ISSN 0309-930X) heraus, einen dreimal jährlich erscheinenden Rundbrief für die Mitglieder. Darüber hinaus organisiert die BSBI Konferenzen und betreibt ein „education program“. Der BSBI steht ein Rat aus gewählten Mitgliedern vor. - The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) is a scientific society for the study of flora, plant distribution and taxonomy relating to Great Britain, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The society was founded as the Botanical Society of London in 1836, and became the Botanical Society of the British Isles, eventually changing to its current name in 2013. It includes both professional and amateur members and is the largest organisation devoted to botany in the British Isles. Its history is recounted in David Allen's book The Botanists. The society publishes handbooks and journals, conducts national surveys and training events, and hosts conferences. It also awards grants and bursaries, sets professional standards (with Field Identification Skills Certificates (FISCs)), and works in an advisory capacity for governments and NGOs. The society is managed by a council of elected members, and is a Registered Charity in England & Wales (212560) and Scotland (SC038675). (en)

In 1836 is de organisatie opgericht als de Botanical Society of London. Zowel wetenschappers als liefhebbers kunnen lid worden. Naar ledental is het de grootste vereniging op de Britse Eilanden die zich richt op de botanie. De vereniging houdt zich bezig met het in kaart brengen van de distributie van plantensoorten op de Britse eilanden. De BSBI publiceert floristische atlassen (boeken met de geografische verspreiding van planten) en flora's van Britse regio’s. Daarnaast is de organisatie verantwoordelijk voor het wetenschappelijke tijdschrift Watsonia. De organisatie organiseert conferenties met betrekking tot de botanie. In de gehele Britse Eilanden worden veldbijeenkomsten georganiseerd. De organisatie ondersteunt het onderwijs in de botanie en steunt wetenschappelijk onderzoek door het verstrekken van fondsen. Esta sociedade foi fundada sob o nome de Botanical Society of London ( Sociedade Botânica de Londres ) em 1836. Produz atlas nacionais e regionais que localizam a distribuição das diferentes espécies de plantas.
