- In Dutch politics the bordes scene (Dutch:bordesscène) is the official presentation of a new cabinet with the monarch on the "bordes" (wide stairs) of the royal palace. During the bordes scene the prime minister and the senior vice prime minister (usually from the second largest party in the cabinet) stand respectively on the right and the left of the monarch with the remaining ministers and state secretaries standing around them. The women are generally not placed next to each other. The bordes scene is intended to give the media an occasion to make photos and videos of the new cabinet. The tradition was started in 1971 when the cabinet first Biesheuvel cabinet presented itself with Queen Juliana at Huis ten Bosch and later at her home, Palace Soestdijk (with the exception of the second Van Agt cabinet, which presented itself in the hall of Huis ten Bosch). During the reign of her daughter Queen Beatrix the bordes scene took place at her home residence Huis ten Bosch, except for the bordes scene of the second Kok cabinet in 1998, which, due to ongoing maintenance, took place on the stairs at the back of Noordeinde Palace, which is the Dutch monarch's working palace. For the same reason, the first bordes scene of King Willem-Alexander (in 2017) took place at Noordeinde Palace. Due to the larger number of ministers, the limited space on the stairs of Huis ten Bosch and the ongoing COVID pandemic, the bordes scene for the incoming Rutte IV cabinet is scheduled to take place at Noordeinde Palace on 10 January 2022. Rump cabinets such as the third Van Agt cabinet and the third Balkenende cabinet are not presented with a bordes scene. (en)
- Met bordesscène wordt in Nederland in het algemeen de gebeurtenis bedoeld waarbij het nieuwe kabinet zich na de benoeming en beëdiging door de koning(in), samen met haar of hem - als hoofd van de regering - presenteert aan de verzamelde pers. Hoewel deze gebeurtenis bordesscène wordt genoemd, vindt deze in werkelijkheid plaats op de trap die naar het bordes voert. Tijdens de bordesscène stellen de minister-president en de (eerste) vicepremier zich resp. rechts en links van de koning(in) op. De plaats van de overige ministers hangt af van de anciënniteit van hun departement. Zij staan aan de zijden of op de hoger gelegen treden van de bordestrap. De bordesscène heeft geen ander doel dan dat er foto's en filmbeelden kunnen worden gemaakt. Deze eerste foto van de nieuwe regering wordt ook wel bordesfoto genoemd. Het gebruik ontstond in 1971 ten tijde van Kabinet-Biesheuvel I en de regering van koningin Juliana. De gebeurtenis vond de eerste keer plaats op Paleis Huis ten Bosch, later veelal op het bordes van haar woonpaleis Soestdijk en ook wel in Den Haag. Tijdens de regering van Beatrix vond de scène plaats op het bordes van Paleis Huis ten Bosch, met uitzondering van het kabinet-Van Agt II. Dat presenteerde zich in de hal van Huis ten Bosch vanwege slecht weer. Het rompkabinet Balkenende III werd niet tijdens een bordesscène gepresenteerd omdat er te weinig mutaties waren met het vorige kabinet. Een eerder rompkabinet, kabinet-Van Agt III, werd wel tijdens een bordesscène gepresenteerd. Het Kabinet-Rutte IV presenteerde zich op de trappen van het bordes van het Paleis Noordeinde in Den Haag. Dat gebeurde omdat de trap daar groter is, zodat vanwege de Coronacrisis in Nederland afstand kon worden gehouden tussen de kabinetsleden. Hoewel de term bordesscène meestal betrekking heeft op de presentatie van een nieuwe regering, wordt de term ook elders wel gebruikt zoals bij de opening van het academisch jaar van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Na die laatste plechtigheid verschijnt de rector magnificus met de besturen van de Groninger studentenverenigingen op het bordes van het Academiegebouw. De bordesscène moet niet verward worden met een zogenaamde balkonscène. In Nederland is een voorbeeld van dat laatste de gelegenheid waarbij de koninklijke familie, na afloop van de opening van de Staten-Generaal, verschijnt op het balkon van paleis Noordeinde om huldeblijken van het toegestroomde publiek in ontvangst te nemen.
