- Birds-1 was the first iteration of a multinational program called the Joint Global Multi-Nations Birds Satellite project, or Birds project, to help countries build their first satellite. The Japanese Kyushu Institute of Technology (KIT) supported the design and fabrication of the satellites. The constellation was launched by a Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station on 3 June 2017, as part of CRS-11, where it was released from the Kibō module into space. Japan, Ghana, Mongolia, Nigeria, and Bangladesh participated in the Birds-1 program, all building identical satellites for the constellation. All of the Birds-1 satellites deorbited in May 2019. (en)

La prima costellazione di satelliti facente parte di questo progetto è stata lanciata il 3 giugno 2017 nell'ambito della missione SpaceX CRS-11 diretta verso la Stazione Spaziale Internazionale (ISS). Una volta giunta sulla ISS, la suddetta costellazione di satelliti è stata messa in orbita dal modulo Kibō. I paesi coinvolti nella fase Birds-1 sono stati il Ghana, la Mongolia, la Nigeria e il Bangladesh, alla loro prima volta nonché lo stesso Giappone. (it)
