Although the names of the workshops varied slightly over time, most included the phase "conceptual development of Babylonian mathematics" and were supported by the Project at Freie Universität Berlin and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. The first meeting was held at the Altorientalisches Seminar und Seminar für Vorderasiatische Altertumskunde on August 5th, 1983. Subsequent meetings were held in 1984, 1985, 1988 and 1994.
