- Bellapais is a small village in the Kyrenia District in the northern part of Cyprus, about four miles from the town of Kyrenia. It is under the de facto control of Northern Cyprus The village was the home for some years of Lawrence Durrell, who wrote about life in Cyprus in his book Bitter Lemons. He mentions passing the time drinking coffee under the Tree of Idleness in the village and there are two places which lay claim to being the spot. His book did not identify it completely, and two establishments profit from the name. His house, up a very steep climb, has a plaque on it and one can have the pleasure of returning by a not-quite-so-perpendicular way that passes by old olive presses. The jewel of the village is Bellapais Abbey or "The Abbey of Peace (from French: Abbaye de la Belle Paix). Built by canons regular of the Premonstratensian Order in the 13th century, it is a most imposing ruin in a wonderful position commanding a long view down to Kyrenia and the Mediterranean Sea. Most of the monastic buildings surround the cloister. In Britain these would normally be built on the south side of the church so to some extent protect the living quarters from the cold air from the north. At Bellapais, the monastic buildings are on the north, probably to be cooler, although occasionally the lay of the land dictated position. (en)
- Bellapais (Beylerbeyi en turc) est un petit village situé sur les hauteurs de Kyrenia (à 220 m d'altitude), à environ 6 km de la ville, dans la partie Nord de l'île de Chypre et placé, de fait, sous l'autorité de la République Tuque de Chypre Nord. Le site tire son nom de l'abbaye éponyme, l'Abbaye de la Belle Paix. Construite par l'ordre des Prémontrés au 13e siècle, elle présente des ruines imposantes donnant sur la baie de Kyrenia. Le village a été habité pendant quelques années par Lawrence Durrell, qui a évoqué sa vie à Chypre dans le livre Citrons amers. Son Arbre de l'Oisiveté rappelle aujourd'hui encore ce séjour mais il faut plutôt parler des deux arbres puisque l'auteur n'en ayant pas clairement décrit la position, ils sont deux à clamer leur légitimité.

Era un villaggio greco cipriota fino al 1974. È sotto il controllo de facto di Cipro del Nord, dove appartiene al distretto di Girne, mentre de iure appartiene al distretto di Kyrenia della Repubblica di Cipro. - Беллапаис (греч. Μπελλαπάϊς, тур. Bellabayıs) — небольшая деревня находящееся под контролем Турецкой Республикой Северного Кипра в четырёх милях от города Кирения. Главной достопримечательностью деревни является аббатство Беллапаис, начатое в 1198—1205 и расширенное в XIII веке, монахами Премонстра́нтами. С высоты руин открывается вид на Кирению и Средиземное море. В деревне несколько лет жил, поселившись в 1952, английский писатель Лоренс Даррелл, зарабатывавший на жизнь преподаванием английского языка. Но через год после его приезда началась война между греками-киприотами, жаждавшими воссоединения с континентальной Грецией, турками-киприотами, боровшимися за независимость, и англичанами, стремившимися контролировать остров. Даррелл в это время оставляет преподавание и работает офицером по связям с общественностью в Никосии. Книга «Горькие лимоны» (англ.
