- Η Μάχη της Κω ήταν μια σύντομη σύγκρουση στη διάρκεια του Β' Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου μεταξύ των βρετανικών και ιταλικών δυνάμεων, από τη μια μεριά, με τις γερμανικές, από την άλλη, για τον έλεγχο του νησιού της Κω, στα Δωδεκάνησα. Η μάχη πυροδοτήθηκε από την ιταλική συνθηκολόγηση και την πρόθεση παράδοσης των ιταλικών στρατευμάτων στους Συμμάχους. Οι γερμανικές δυνάμεις, με ισχυρή αεροπορική υποστήριξη, κατατρόπωσαν γρήγορα την ιταλική φρουρά και τις πρόσφατες βρετανικές ενισχύσεις, αρνούμενες να επιτρέψουν στους Συμμάχους να θέσουν βάση στα Βαλκάνια που μέχρι στιγμής ήταν υπό γερμανική κατοχή. Ένας άλλος στόχος των Γερμανών ήταν να οδηγήσουν στην απομάκρυνση και στον θάνατο τον εβραϊκό πληθυσμό του νησιού. (el)
- The Battle of Kos (Greek: Μάχη της Κω) was a brief battle in World War II between British/Italian and German forces for control of the Greek island of Kos, in the then Italian-held Dodecanese Islands of the Aegean Sea. The battle was precipitated by the Allied Armistice with Italy. German forces with strong air support quickly overwhelmed the Italian garrison and the recent British reinforcements, denying the Allies a base to attack the German presence in the Balkans and leading to the expulsion and death of the island's Jewish population. Gli italiani, che dopo l'armistizio di Cassibile avevano deciso di rimanere fedeli al re Vittorio Emanuele III, ricevettero aiuti inglesi per respingere le forze della Wehrmacht che volevano impossessarsi dell'isola, strategicamente importante perché in essa si trovava un campo d'aviazione da cui gli aerei potevano alzarsi in volo e coprire tutto lo scacchiere del Dodecaneso. La resistenza offerta fu comunque scarsa e in due giorni i tedeschi completarono la conquista dell'isola. (it)
