Les Bakole s'écartèrent probablement des Douala à un certain moment, et firent route vers l'ouest, sur leur territoire actuel. Aujourd'hui, ils peuplent la côte juste au nord du peuple Bamboko, le long du Rio Del Rey et au sud de l'estuaire de la Meme, dans l'arrondissement Ndian de la région du sud-ouest de la Province. Aujourd'hui, les Bakole cultivent le malanga, le maïs, le manioc, le palmier à huile, et la banane plantain sur les terres volcaniques fertiles du Mont Cameroun. La langue bakole fait partie du groupe Bantu de la famille des langues nigéro-congolaises. La langue est au moins partiellement intelligible avec le bakweri, la langue des Bakweri. According to Duala oral history, the Duala, Bakole, and Limba come from a single ancestor named Ewale. From Piti, northeast of Douala, Ewale migrated to the coast to the east bank of Wouri River. The Bakole probably splintered from the Duala proper at some point and made their way west to their current territory. Today, the inhabit the coast directly north of the Bamboko people, along the and south of the in the of the Southwest Province. Today, the Bakole farm the fertile volcanic soils of Mount Cameroon to raise cocoyams, maize, manioc, oil palms, and plantains. The Bakole language is part of the Bantu group of the Niger–Congo language family. The language is at least partially intelligible with Mokpwe, the language of the Bakweri. Individuals who have attended school or lived in an urban centre usually speak Cameroonian Pidgin English or standard English.
