- Ein Luftfahrtministerium ist ein Ministerium, das sich mit dem Aufbau oder der Koordination der Luftfahrt eines Staats befasst. Seine Zuständigkeiten können die militärische Luftfahrt wie auch die zivile Luftfahrt betreffen. Eigenständige Luftfahrtministerien gab es vor allem in der Zwischenkriegszeit und während des Zweiten Weltkriegs, darunter das britische Air Ministry (1918–1964), später in Großbritannien zudem das Ministry of Aviation (1959–1967), in Italien das , in Frankreich das Ministère de l’Air (1928–1947) sowie im nationalsozialistischen Deutschland das Reichsluftfahrtministerium (1933–1945). An aviation ministry may also be involved with a nation's air force, either to a limited degree or in direct command. For example, India has the Ministry of Civil Aviation of Government of India. One of the more well known aviation ministries was the aviation ministry of Nazi Germany which formed the Luftwaffe under Hermann Göring. Other nations, for instance the United States, do not have a cabinet or state level department for aviation, but rather civilian or federally sponsored civilian agencies, one of the better known being the Federal Aviation Administration.
