- Třída Corinthic je označení pro tři parníky vybudované na počátku 20. století v loděnicích Harland & Wolff v Belfastu pro společnost White Star Line. Všechny parníky byly navrženy tak, aby mohly převážet náklad a cestující zároveň. Sloužily na lince Velká Británie - Nový Zéland. Během 1. světové války byly White Star Line zabaveny a převážely průzkumné jednotky na Nový Zéland. V roce 1928 byl Athenic prodán do Norska a přestavěn na velrybářskou loď. Corinthic byl v roce 1931 sešrotován. Ve 2. světové válce byl Athenic torpédován ponorkou U-69. Potopil se, ale později byl vyzvednut a vrácen svému vlastníkovi. Nakonec byl roku 1962 sešrotován. - The Athenic-class ocean liners were a three ship class of ocean liners built by the Harland & Wolff shipyard for the White Star Line in the early 20th century. The first ship built was SS Athenic, followed by SS Corinthic. Both were launched in 1902. The Athenic was launched as a dual purpose cargo/passenger ship. The last ship, SS Ionic, was launched one year later. In the First World War, all three ships were used as troop transports. Their route was from Liverpool to New Zealand. In 1928, the Athenic was sold to a Norwegian firm and converted into a whaling ship. The SS Corinthic was scrapped in 1931. In the Second World War, the Athenic was torpedoed twice and sunk by U-69 but later she was raised and returned to her owner. She was scrapped in 1962. In 1934, the Ionic was sold to the Shaw, Savill & Albion Line and was scrapped two years later. (en)

Conçus pour transporter plusieurs centaines de passagers, ils disposent également de nombreuses cales réfrigérées destinées à embarquer de la viande de mouton. Ces installations sont nécessaires sur la ligne qui leur est attribuée, la Nouvelle-Zélande, qui est exploitée par la White Star de façon conjointe avec la Shaw, Savill & Albion Line. Durant leur première décennie de service, les navires de classe Athenic connaissent un grand succès et sont rejoints en 1911 par le Zealandic. La Première Guerre mondiale ne modifie pas le service de l'Athenic et du Corinthic, utilisés pour ravitailler le Royaume-Uni en viande, tandis que l'Ionic est réquisitionné et sert de transport de troupes durant le conflit.
