- إن نظام أردويس للإضاءة, أو نظام أردويس للإضاءة باستخدام العدسات المقربة, هو نظام اتصال وطريقة كانت تستخدمها البحرية الأمريكية في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر لتمكين السفن من الاتصال مع بعضها البعض في الفترات الليلية. وتستخدم كل تركيبة إضاءة سلسلة من ثمانية مصابيح مزدوجة (أربعة بضوء أحمر والأربعة الأخرى بالضوء الأبيض) بحيث تكون تلك المصابيح معلقة رأسيًا من على صارٍ ويتم قراءتها من الأعلى إلى الأسفل، (فإذا كانت مثبتة أفقيًا، فسيتم قراءتها من يمين جهاز الإرسال إلى يساره). ولقد كانت الشفرة المستخدمة عبارة عن نسخة بصرية من شفرة مورس، ذات لون واحد يشير إلى «النقطة» أما باقي الألوان فتشير إلى «الشَرطة». وفي عام 1897، تم تطوير النظام عن طريق إضافة لوحة مفاتيح أفضل، تُعرف باسم «العدسة المقربة». - The Ardois light system, or the Ardois Telephotos light system, was a communications system and method used by the U.S. Navy in the late 19th century to enable ship to ship communications at night. Each installation used a series of eight double lamps (four red and four white) hung vertically from a mast and read from top to bottom, (if mounted horizontally, they were read from the transmitter's right to the left). The code used was effectively a visual version of Morse code, with one color indicating a 'dot' and the other color a 'dash'. In 1897 the system was improved by adding on a better keyboard, known as the "Telephotos." (en)
