- Apache Forrest is a web-publishing framework based on Apache Cocoon. It is an XML single source publishing framework that allows multiple types of data-files as input, such as various popular word processing and spreadsheet files, as well as two wiki dialects. Plugins are available to support additional formats, both for input as well as output (such as PDF). Forrest was retired in February, 2020. Forrest is not a content management system (CMS), as it lacks the full workflow and admin functions of a CMS. Its primary use is in integrating and aggregating content from various sources and presenting them in a unified format for human consumption. "Single source" is this context does not mean that it is restricted to aggregating from only a single source, but rather that the multiple output formats can be maintained whilst still only needing to maintain a single source document. Se trata de un framework de publicaciones basado en XML que acepta los más variados tipos de ficheros de datos a la entrada, tales como diversos formatos de procesamiento de palabra y de planillas de cálculo, así como dos dialectos de wiki. Existen plugins que soportan formatos adicionales, tanto en lo que se refiere a entradas como también a salidas (tales como PDF). Forrest no es un sistema de gestión de contenidos (CMS), dado que carece del conjunto de funciones de workflow y administración de un CMS típico. Es entstand aus dem Bedürfnis heraus, Softwareprojekte zu dokumentieren, ist aber mittlerweile auch für die Erstellung anderer Webseiten geeignet. Die zu publizierenden Inhalte werden normalerweise als XML-Daten abgelegt, die Forrest dann mithilfe von XSLT in das entsprechende Ausgabeformat – HTML oder PDF – umwandeln kann. Da es auf Apache Cocoon aufbaut, sind noch zahlreiche weitere Ein- oder Ausgabeformate möglich. Die aktuelle Version ist 0.9 vom 7. Februar 2011; auf der Projekt-Homepage werden Events aus dem Jahr 2009 als zukünftig angegeben. (Stand: Dezember 2017). Im Dezember 2019 hat das Apache Forrest PMC (Project Management Committee) einer Verrentung zugestimmt.
