- The anthophytes are a grouping of plant taxa bearing flower-like reproductive structures. They were formerly thought to be a clade comprising plants bearing flower-like structures. The group contained the angiosperms - the extant flowering plants, such as roses and grasses - as well as the Gnetales and the extinct Bennettitales. Detailed morphological and molecular studies have shown that the group is not actually monophyletic, with proposed floral homologies of the gnetophytes and the angiosperms having evolved in parallel. This makes it easier to reconcile molecular clock data that suggests that the angiosperms diverged from the gymnosperms around 320-300 mya. Some more recent studies have used the word anthophyte to describe a group which includes the angiosperms and a variety of fossils (glossopterids, Pentoxylon, Bennettitales, and Caytonia), but not the Gnetales. - Los antofitos (clado Anthophyta) son las plantas con flores y se caracterizan por envolver las semillas en el ovario. Anthophyta comprende tanto a las plantas vivientes agrupadas en el taxón Angiospermae, como a las plantas con flores ancestrales extintas. Es el grupo con mayor número de especies conocidas, alrededor de 275.000, las cuales tienen una enorme importancia para el hombre y para los animales en general. La característica más importante de los antófitos es que presentan una fecundación doble. Los antófitos son angiospermas y por lo tanto tienen óvulos encerrados en carpelos.
