- Saint Ansegisus (c. 770 – 20 July 833 or 834) was a monastic reformer of the Franks. Born about 770, of noble parentage, at the age of eighteen he entered the monastery of Fontenelle (also called St Wandrille after the name of its founder) in the diocese of Rouen. Saint Girowald, a relative of Ansegisus, was then Abbot of Fontanelle. Upon the recommendation of the abbot Girowald he was entrusted by the Emperor Charlemagne with the government and reform of two monasteries, St. Sixtus near Reims and St. Memmius (St. Menge) in the diocese of Châlons-sur-Marne, in which he was successful. In 817, Louis the Pious made him abbot of the famous Luxeuil Abbey, founded by Saint Columbanus as early as 590. Finally, having also reformed Luxeuil, he was transferred in 823, after the death of Einhard, as abbot to Fontenelle, where he had begun his monastic life and which he reformed as successfully as the previous monasteries. He was responsible for compiling a number of capitularies, a document of civil and ecclesiastical law, and also commissioned the first abbey history, the Gesta abbatum Fontanellensium. (en)

- De heilige Ansegisus (ca. 770 – 20 juli 833 of 834) was een rooms-katholieke abt die een aantal wetboeken voor het Frankische rijk schreef. Deze golden lange tijd als de officiële wet van Frankrijk, Duitsland en Italië. Ansegisus (de Latijnse vorm van de namen Anségise, Ansegis en Ansegisel) was van nobele afkomst en ging op 18-jarige leeftijd het klooster in. Koning Karel de Grote gaf hem de taak om hervormingen en verbouwingen door te voeren in drie verschillende kloosters (St. Sixtus nabij Reims, St. Memius in het bisdom Châlons-en-Champagne en de Abdij van Flay), wat hij met succes volbracht. In 817 benoemde koning Lodewijk de Vrome hem tot hoofd van de Abdij van Luxeuil, waar hij ook met succes hervormingen doorvoerde. Zes jaar later, in 823, werd hij benoemd tot abt van de nabij Caudebec-en-Caux in Normandië, die voorheen de Abdij van Fontenelle werd genoemd. Hij bleef hoofd van deze abdij tot zijn dood tien jaar later. Onder zijn leiding werd het klooster, dat in 756 door brand was verwoest, herbouwd en groeide het uit tot een van de belangrijkste centra van kennis in die tijd. In 827 volbracht Ansegisus zijn grootste werk, de Capitularia regum Francorum, een verzameling wetten die door Karel de Grote en Lodewijk de Vrome waren uitgevaardigd. Deze zogenaamde verzamelde hij in vier boeken. De eerste twee boeken bevatten religieuze wetten en de laatste twee wetten betreffende wereldlijke zaken. De boeken werden goedgekeurd door de kerk in Frankrijk, Duitsland en Italië en golden daar lange tijd als officiële wetgeving. Ansegisus werd door Lodewijk de Vrome regelmatig als diplomaat afgevaardigd naar andere landen. Hij stierf in 833 of 834 en ligt begraven in de Abdij van Fontenelle. Zijn feestdag als heilige wordt gevierd op zijn sterfdag, 20 juli. (nl)

Zaczynał jako zakonnik w benedyktyńskim opactwie Fontenelle, ale wkrótce powierzono mu zadanie zreorganizowania klasztorów św. Sykstusa pod Reims i św. Memgego w diecezji Châlons-sur-Marne, które zakończył sukcesem. Karol Wielki wyznaczył go opatem klasztoru Saint Germer de Fly oraz jednocześnie powierzył mu nadzór nad kodyfikacją prawa królewskiego pod kierownictwem opata Einharda. Jego praca w Saint-Germer-de-Fly również zostało uznana za bardzo udaną. W 817 Ludwik I Pobożny powierzył mu słynne opactwo Luxeuil (dzisiejsze Luxeuil-les-Bains), założone przez Kolumbana Młodszego w 590 roku.
