- Angelo Francesco Ramazzotti (3 August 1800 – 24 September 1861) was an Italian Roman Catholic prelate who served as the Patriarch of Venice. He established the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions in 1850. Ramazzotti had served as the Bishop of Pavia prior to his relocation to Venice and died less than a week before Pope Pius IX could elevate him to the cardinalate. He became well known across Venice for his love of the people and for his careful attention and consideration of the social and pastoral issues that faced the archdiocese. He brought to Venice his sense of calmness and resolve in tending to the social needs of the poor and to all people in general as a means of rekindling the Christian virtues in Venice. His cause of beatification has commenced and he was bestowed with the title of Servant of God in 1976. Pope Francis recognized his life of heroic virtue and conferred upon him the title of Venerable on 14 December 2015. (en)

Ramazotti, zoon van Giuseppe Ramazzotti en Giulia Maderna, studeerde aan de Universiteit van Pavia, waar hij in beide rechten promoveerde. Hij werkte vervolgens in de advocatuur, alvorens zijn roeping te volgen en te gaan studeren aan het seminarie van Milaan. Hij werd op 13 juni 1829 priester gewijd. Hij trad toe tot de orde van de Oblaten van de Heiligen Ambrosius en Carolus en hij werkte vervolgens als docent en pastoor in het aartsbisdom Milaan. Paus Pius IX benoemde hem in 1850 tot bisschop van Pavia. Acht jaar later werd hij door dezelfde paus benoemd tot patriarch van Venetië. In 1860 werd hij Zijner Heiligheids bisschop-troonassistent. Op 22 augustus 1861 maakte het Vaticaan bekend dat aartsbisschop Ramazotti kardinaal gecreëerd zou worden in het consistorie van 27 september van dat jaar. Był synem Giuseppe i Giulii Maderna. W sierpniu 1823 uzyskał na uniwersytecie w Pawii doktorat obojga praw i przez trzy lata praktykował jako prawnik. W 1826 wstąpił do mediolańskiego seminarium. Święcenia kapłańskie przyjął 13 czerwca 1829. Wstąpił do kongregacji oblatów św. Ambrożego i Karola, był trzykrotnie przełożonym szkoły kongregacji, przez dwadzieścia lat prowadził pracę misyjną w Mediolanie i Como. 20 maja 1850 został mianowany biskupem Pawii, sakrę biskupią przyjął 30 czerwca 1850 w Rzymie z rąk kardynała Giacomo Filippo Fransoniego. Zainicjował działalność seminarium lombardzkiego przy Papieskim Instytucie Misji Zagranicznych (1850). 15 marca 1858 został przeniesiony na stolicę patriarszą w Wenecji. Nosił też tytuł asystenta tronu papieskiego (1860). W 1861 został ogłoszony kardynałem przez papieża Piusa IX. Zamierzał nie przyjmować godności i wystosował w tej sprawie list do papieża, tłumacząc się złym stanem zdrowia (cierpiał na dusznicę). Jednocześnie w liście do kardynała Giacomo Antonelliego pisał, że nie jest w stanie finansowo podołać kosztom kardynalatu. Ostatecznie insygniów kardynalskich nie odebrał, zmarł 24 września 1861 – na trzy dni przed planowanym konsystorzem. Pochowany został w katedrze w Wenecji, w 1957 zwłoki przeniesiono do kościoła św. Franciszka Ksawerego w Mediolanie, a w powtórnych uroczystościach pogrzebowych uczestniczyli dwaj przyszli papieże, patriarcha Wenecji kardynał Roncalli i arcybiskup Mediolanu Montini. Ten ostatni, już jako papież, zainicjował w 1978 proces beatyfikacyjny Ramazzottiego. (pl)
