- Libertäre Bibliotheken und Archive, auch anarchistische Bibliotheken und Archive oder Anarchist Library genannt, bestehen seit etwa Mitte der 1950er Jahre und sind international vertreten. Diese Archive und Bibliotheken sind spezialisiert auf libertäre, das heißt anarchistische, anarchosyndikalistische, syndikalistische, anarchokommunistische und sozialistische Literatur, wo Stadt-, Gemeinde- und Staatsarchive oftmals nicht die notwendigen finanziellen Mittel und Räumlichkeiten haben für den Aufbau dieses internationalen, umfangreichen Bücher- und Zeitschriftenangebotes. - Anarchist archives preserve records from the international anarchist movement in personal and institutional collections around the world. This primary source documentation is made available for researchers to learn directly from movement anarchists, both their ideas and lives. Anarchism, an anti-authoritarian political philosophy of self-governed societies without unjust hierarchies, has spread chiefly through published propaganda literature: pamphlets, books, and newspapers. As a result, American and European anarchists have a history of collecting the movement's written work and anarchist libraries naturally followed. (en)

Dokumentacje bywają udostępniane badaczom bezpośrednio w lokalizacjach lub poprzez strony internetowe. Anarchizm, antyautorytarna filozofia polityczna samorządnych społeczeństw, rozprzestrzeniała się głównie poprzez publikowaną literaturę propagandową: pamflety, książki i gazety.
