- Ami was the name of a word processing program developed and marketed by Samna in the late 1980s, which was later purchased by Lotus Software in 1990. Shortly after its introduction, the name of the program was changed to "Ami Pro". Ami Pro was a significant competitor to Microsoft Word and WordPerfect Corporation's WordPerfect during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The developers of Ami Pro introduced a number of innovations in Ami Pro that were later adopted by other word processors. At the time that Ami Pro was introduced, the word processing market was dominated by WordPerfect. Both Ami Pro and Microsoft Word made inroads into WordPerfect's market share. Eventually Microsoft Word overtook WordPerfect as the dominant player and Ami Pro was discontinued. IBM, the present owner of the Lotus brand, renamed it Lotus Word Pro. (en)

- Ami Pro is een tekstverwerker die oorspronkelijk door het Amerikaanse bedrijf ten behoeve van Microsoft Windows 3.0 in de markt werd geplaatst. AmiPro had ten opzichte van de ook destijds al bekende tekstverwerkers Microsoft Word, WordPerfect en IBM een groot voordeel: het was een van de eerste zogenaamde wysiwyg tekstverwerkers. Als zodanig was het al direct een succesvol product. Bij AmiPro lag wat meer de nadruk op Desktop Publishing functionaliteit, terwijl van zowel de DOS- als Windowsversies van de eerder genoemde tekstverwerkers de invalshoek het werkelijk tekstverwerken was. AmiPro had echter ook daarvoor uitstekende eigenschappen. AmiPro is later door Lotus overgenomen. Lotus gaf het een andere naam: . WordPro is geschikt voor gebruik op het Windowsplatform tot Windows 2000. Op Windows XP is het product alleen met kunstgrepen te gebruiken en Windows Vista kan in het geheel niet overweg met WordPro. Obecnie, jako Word Pro, jest częścią pakietu biurowego Lotus SmartSuite. Napisany dla 16-bitowych Windows 3.x, operujący czcionkami TrueType, ramkami tekstowymi i graficznymi, własnym edytorem grafiki wektorowej, umożliwiał bardzo zaawansowany skład tekstu, wyprzedzając o kilka lat rozwiązania przyjęte w MS Word. Umożliwiał tworzenie własnych ikon i przypisywania im makroprogramów, które były łatwe do tworzenia. Działa w Win 98 (z ograniczeniem – problemy z wydrukami w układzie landscape). Szczególne uznanie użytkowników zdobył w tworzeniu i formatowaniu tabel. Zaopatrzony w wiele filtrów importu i eksportu, słowniki do korekty tekstu i inne narzędzia. (pl)
