- Die American Bobtail ist eine relativ neue Katzenrasse, die in den späten 1960ern entstanden ist. Sie ist wegen ihres kurzen Schwanzes („Bobtail“) bemerkenswert, der nur ein Drittel bis zur Hälfte der Länge eines normalen Katzenschwanzes hat. It is most notable for its stubby "bobbed" tail about one-third to one-half the length of a normal cat's tail. Si caratterizza per la tipica coda mozza, in realtà lunga da un terzo alla metà di quella normalmente riscontrabile nei gatti di altre razze.Tale caratteristica è dovuta a una mutazione genetica simile a quella riscontrata nei gatti dell'isola di Man.
