Originariamente prevista come una serie di sette videogiochi, furono sviluppati solamente i primi due titoli Alternate Reality: The City e Alternate Reality: The Dungeon pubblicati da Datasoft per Atari 8-bit rispettivamente nel 1985 e nel 1987. Sono state realizzate conversioni dei due videogiochi per Commodore 64 e Apple II. The City è stato sviluppato interamente da Philip Price, mentre The Dungeon è stato completato da Ken Jordan e Dan Pinal. La musica dei videogiochi è stata realizzata da Gary Gilbertson.
