- Die Alinghi 5 ist der Katamaran, mit dem das Team Alinghi im 33. America’s Cup gegen die USA 17 unterlag. Der Katamaran wurde von Alinghi-Villeneuve und Décision-Corsier in einer Montagehalle in Villeneuve VD gebaut. Schiffsarchitekten waren Rolf Vrolijk und das Designteam Alinghi. Zeitweise waren , und als Berater angeheuert. Designkoordinator war der Australier Grant Simmer. Das Boot wurde zum ersten Mal am 8. Juli 2009 im Genfersee mit einem Mil-Mi-26-Helikopter zu Wasser gebracht. Mit dem gleichen Helikopter wurde der Katamaran am 7. August 2009 über den Grossen Sankt Bernhard Pass nach Genua befördert. Das Boot ist für seine Grösse extrem leicht und auf hohe Geschwindigkeiten bei leichtem Wind und maximal 50 cm hohen Wellen optimiert. Schon bei etwa 8 Knoten Wind kommt der luvseitige Rumpf aus dem Wasser. Auf der Kreuz können mehr als 20 Knoten, auf Raumkursen mehr als 30 Knoten erreicht werden. Obwohl die America’s-Cup-Regatten nur bis Windstärke 4 bzw. 15 kn (28 km/h) Windgeschwindigkeit gesegelt werden sollen, erreicht der scheinbare Wind an Deck durchaus 40 kn (74 km/h) und mehr, was dann Beaufort 8–9 entspricht (mit ungerefften Segeln). - Alinghi 5 is a 90 ft (27 m) (LWL), 90 ft (27 m) beam sloop-rigged catamaran built by Alinghi for the 33rd America's Cup. The boat was launched on 8 July 2009 when the hull was lifted from the construction shed in Villeneuve, Vaud by a Mil Mi-26 helicopter and carried to Lake Geneva. Alinghi 5was subsequently moved again by helicopter to Genoa, Italy. At the end of September 2009, the boat was shipped to Ras al Khaimah, the venue selected by the defender for the 33rd America's Cup. At the end of October 2009, the New York Supreme Court (the court of first instance) ruled that the venue of Ras al Khaimah was not compliant with the Deed of Gift. After various discussions, Société Nautique de Genève (SNG—the Defending club) agreed that the venue would be Valencia, Spain. An appeal by SNG regarding the venue was rejected and Alinghi 5 was shipped at the end of December 2009 from Ras al Khaimah to Valencia, where she arrived on 5 January 2010. (en)

Le voilier a été conçu par le Design Team de l'équipe Alinghi, composé de 23 personnes et coordonné par Grant Simmer, avec Rolf Vrolijk à la tête de cette équipe en tant que premier architecte et construit par le chantier Decision S.A..
