After several years of teaching in various Jesuit educational institutions in the United States (including Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia), Italy, Zimbabwe (where he taught at St. George's College in Harare) and Iraq, Jolson was appointed to the Diocese of Reykjavík by Pope John Paul II in 1987. Ukończył Boston College i Weston College. Na Harvardzie ukończył Master of Business Administration. Tytuł doktora ekonomii uzyskał na Papieskim Uniwersytecie Gregoriańskim. Święcenia kapłańskie przyjął 14 czerwca 1958 roku. Przez wiele lat był wykładowcą na różnych jezuickich uczelniach w USA, Włoszech, Rodezji i Iraku. 12 grudnia 1987 roku Jan Paweł II mianował go biskupem Reykyavíku. Święcenia biskupie przyjął 6 lutego 1988 roku z rąk kardynała Johna Josepha O’Connora. Współkonsekratorami byli biskup Helsinek Paul Verschuren oraz biskup Bridgeport . Zmarł niespodziewanie 21 marca 1994 w szpitalu w Pittsburghu, w wyniku komplikacji po przebytej operacji wszczepienia by-passów. (pl)

Jolson trad toe tot de orde der Jezuïeten en studeerde aan het Boston College en in Engeland aan het Weston College. Hij behaalde een MBA aan de Harvard-universiteit en promoveerde vervolgens in de economie aan de Pauselijke Gregoriaanse Universiteit in Rome. Hij werd op 14 juni 1958 priester gewijd. Hij werkte vervolgens als hoogleraar aan verschillende universiteiten in Europa en de Verenigde Staten. Paus Johannes Paulus II benoemde Jolson in 1987 tot bisschop van Reykjavik. Hij bleef zeven jaar bisschop op IJsland en stierf nadat hij een bypassoperatie had ondergaan in een ziekenhuis in Pittsburgh. Hij werd in Reykjavik opgevolgd door de Nederlander Joannes Gijsen. (nl)
