- Aira praecox is a species of grass known by several common names, including early hair-grass, yellow hairgrass and spike hairgrass. It is native to Europe, where it is found in dry, sandy places, on rocky outcrops, and in heath grassland. It also grows in North America as an introduced species, where it can be found on the east and west coasts in sandy or rocky areas, such as beaches and roadsides. This is a tuft-forming annual grass growing up to about 10 to 15 centimeters in maximum height. The thin, narrow leaves are located at the base of the stem, and are typically 0.3–2 millimeters wide. It bears small, tightly congested inflorescences of purple-tinted green bisexual spikelets. It is an annual, forming low and small but numerous tufts. It flowers from April to June. Certain moths and butterflies, including the Grayling butterfly and the Coast Dart moth, feed on it as larvae. (en)

- Vroege haver (Aira praecox, synoniem: Avena praecox) is een eenjarige plant, die behoort tot de grassenfamilie (Poaceae). De plant wordt ook wel paashaver genoemd. De plant wordt 4–24 cm hoog en vormt kleine zoden. De stengel is onder de knopen meestal dicht bezet met zeer korte naar beneden gebogen haartjes. De bladeren zijn kort, smal en min of meer ingerold. De bladschede is glad met een tot 3 mm lang tongetje (ligula), dat tot boven het midden bezet is met stekelhaartjes. Vroege haver bloeit van april tot juni met een rechtopstaande, aarachtige pluim. De stelen van de aartjes zijn even lang of korter dan de eigenlijke aartjes. De aartjes zijn tot 4 mm lang en de kelkkafjes zijn ongeveer even lang als de bloemen. De 0,35 mm lange helmhokjes zijn oranjegeel. De vrucht is een graanvrucht. De plant komt voor op droge tot vrij vochtige, kalkarme zandgrond in duinen, rivierduinen, zandverstuivingen, in heidevelden en open plekken in bossen. (nl)
