She was member of the CDU since 1945, became member of the CDU-Bundesvorstand in 1956. From 1958 to 1971 she was the chief of CDU-women (Frauen-Union). Her highest job in the CDU-party was as Deputy Chief of the CDU from 1967 to 1969. She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1949 to 1972. For three years, from 1965 to 1968 she was the deputy leader of the CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion, before she became in October 1968 Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. She had to leave this job, when Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger was not re-elected in 1969. (en)
