- Adolf Wissel (19 April 1894 – 17 November 1973) was a German painter. He was one of the official artists of Nazism. Wissel, who was born in , was a painter in the genre of Nazi folk art, the idea being that these paintings should show the simple, natural life of a farming family. The phrase 'union with the soil' best describes the subject of his art. Wissel idealised farming life for predominantly urban viewers. Exhibitions of paintings of this genre were meant to show the peasants and working class that they were just as good as the wealthy, and that they too deserved a pleasant life. These paintings were part of the Nazis' 'blood and soil' campaign, designed to associate the ideas of health, family and motherhood with the country. Wissel painted many pictures such as these, but his work contains subtle distortions and accentuations influenced by expressionism. He died in Velber in 1973. (en)

Wissel peint de nombreux tableaux qui montrent la vie rurale de familles d'agriculteurs. Conçue pour associer les idées de la santé, la famille et de la maternité en accord avec l'idéologie du régime. L'exposition de peintures de ce genre étaient destinées à montrer que les paysans et la classe ouvrière avaient une vie agréable. Son tableau le plus connu est la Famille de paysans de Kahlenberg (1939), une huile sur toile représentant une famille aryenne à une table. Cette toile mesure 67 centimètres sur cinquante et un et demi centimètres. Ce tableau se trouve au musée d'histoire allemande à Berlin. Adolf voulait montrer la race aryenne des nazis. (fr)

W dziełach swych preferował ujęcie realistyczne, w duchu akademizmu, pozostawał jednak pod znaczącym wpływem ekspresjonizmu, później związany z postekspresjonistycznym stylem Nowa Rzeczowość (niem. Neue Sachlichkeit). Tematami jego prac są wyidealizowane sceny z życia klasy robotniczej i chłopów III Rzeszy. Wielokrotnie wystawiany i kopiowany był jego obraz Kalenberger Bauernfamilie, przedstawiający rodzinę chłopską z Calenberger Land pomiędzy rzeką Leine a wzgórzami Deister. Styl Wissela jest zdumiewająco podobny do twórczości Granta Wooda (np. American Gothic). (pl)
