- The Aboriginal Memorial is a work of contemporary Indigenous Australian art from the late 1980s, and comprises 200 decorated hollow log coffins (also known as memorial poles, dupun, ḻarrakitj and other terms). It was conceived by Djon (John) Mundine in 1987–88 and realised by 43 artists from Ramingining and neighbouring communities of Central Arnhem Land, in the Northern Territory. Artists who participated in its creation included David Malangi and George Milpurrurru. The work was created to coincide with the Australian Bicentenary and commemorates those Indigenous Australians who died as a result of European settlement. It was acquired by the National Gallery of Australia, where it is on permanent display. Its first exhibition was at the Sydney Biennale in 1988, and it was the centrepiece of an exhibition of Indigenous art at Russia's Hermitage Museum in 2000. (en)

Elle est constituée par 200 cercueils en bois creux dressés et décorés de symboles aborigènes. L'œuvre — initiée par (en) en 1987-1988 — a été réalisée par 43 artistes de Ramingining dont David Malangi, (en) et des membres des communautés du centre de Terre d'Arnhem situées dans le Territoire du Nord. La fin de la réalisation de l’œuvre a été planifiée de manière à coïncider avec le début du bicentenaire de l'Australie qui commémorait la mort de nombreux Aborigènes consécutivement à la colonisation européenne. L'œuvre a été acquise par la Galerie nationale d'Australie où elle est exposée aujourd'hui, dans l'aile ouverte en septembre 2010 parmi les collections permanentes. Elle fut au préalable, présentée pour la première fois à la Biennale de Sydney en 1988 puis exposée comme pièce maîtresse d'une exposition des arts des peuples autochtones au musée de l'Ermitage de Saint-Pétersbourg, en Russie en 2000. Det har utformats av 1987-88 och utförts praktiskt av 43 konstnärer från och närliggande aboriginska samhällen i Central Arnhem Land i Northern Territory. Installationen gjordes i samband med Australiens firande som 200-årig nation och är ett minnesmärke över de australiska aboriginer som dog till följd av den europeiska kolonisationen. Den inköptes av National Gallery of Australia, där den ingår i dess permanenta utställning i den 2010 invigda tillbyggnaden för inhemsk konst.
