- A Virgin and a Whore is the fourth album by Finnish symphonic death metal band Eternal Tears of Sorrow. It was their last album before the band's hiatus between 2001 and 2004. This is the last EToS album to feature keyboardist Pasi Hiltula (who had been in the band since early 1999) and the only album to feature guitarist Antti Kokko. The seventh song on the album, "Sick, Dirty and Mean" is a cover song, originally written and performed by Accept. The band had rehearsed the song for a two-part tribute album (Tribute to Accept Vol. 1 & 2) in 1999 but didn't have any extra time to record it. So, they decided to include the song on A Virgin and a Whore. The album's cover art was made by Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media and guitarist of Dark Tranquillity. (en)

- A Virgin and a Whore est le quatrième album studio du groupe de death metal mélodique finlandais Eternal Tears of Sorrow. L'album est sorti le 7 novembre 2001 sous le label Spinefarm Records. C'est le dernier album du groupe enregistré avec le claviériste Pasi Hiltula. Il s'agit également de l'unique album de Eternal Tears of Sorrow enregistré avec le guitariste Antti Kokko. Le titre Sick, Dirty and Mean est une reprise du groupe de heavy metal allemand Accept. La pochette de l'album a été faite par Niklas Sundin du groupe de Death metal Dark Tranquillity. Le vocaliste Juha Kylmänen chante en voix claire sur les titres The River Flows Frozen et The Last One For Life. (fr)

È l'ultimo album inciso dalla band prima dello scioglimento, che rivedrà affacciare il gruppo finnico solo nel 2005 con la progettazione e nel 2006 con l'uscita di Before the Bleeding Sun. È anche l'ultimo album in cui troviamo nei panni di tastierista . Presenti, come nella maggior parte degli album del gruppo, varie cover, tra cui quella dei tedeschi Accept con Sick, Dirty and Mean e, in edizione speciale venduta in Giappone, quella dei Paradise Lost, As I Die. Nella versione giapponese oltre a questa cover troviamo la rivisitazione della #5 traccia, , interpretata stavolta totalmente da , senza l'alternarsi con la voce death di , e con poche sporadiche apparizioni di chitarra distorta, basandosi quindi maggiormente sulla prima parte della canzone originale, ed andando avanti su quella strada. La presenza di ospiti, anche questa caratteristica molto frequente negli Eternal Tears of Sorrow, qui è limitata ad un solo musicista, (For My Pain..., ), impegnato però in ben tre tracce: The River Flows Frozen, The Last One for Life e The River Flows Frozen (Acoustic Version).
