Le Stéphanoises raggiunsero per la prima volta il livello di vertice del campionato nazionale nel 1980 dove rimasero due stagioni prima di essere retrocesse, prima al secondo livello e poi nei campionati regionali, la Ligue de Rhône-Alpes. Per tornare a giocare in un campionato nazionale, la Division 3, devono attendere il 2004 e nel giro di poco tempo riescono a fare il doppio salto di categoria accedendo alla Division 1 Féminine dalla stagione 2007-08. Assorbita dall'Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne Loire nel 2009, la squadra riesce a conquistare il suo primo titolo a livello nazionale, l'allora Challenge de France (l'attuale Coppa di Francia), al termine della stagione 2010-2011.
