The 31st Indian Armourd Division was formed in 1940 during World War II it consisted of units of the British Army and the British Indian Army. When it was raised it was at first called the 1st Indian Armoured Divisionand consisted of two Armoured Brigades (1st and 2nd Armoured Brigade) and one Motor Brigade, this was later changed to one Armoured and one Motor Brigade .
