Αποτελεί πιθανό συστατικό του αργού πετρελαίου και ιδιαίτερα της βενζίνης, μετά από πυρόλυση. Η ποιότητά του ως καύσιμο βενζινοκινητήρων είναι μέτρια, αφού έχει αριθμό οκτανίου 90,7. Αποτελεί, ακόμη, ένα ισομερές θέσης του επτανίου.
