- The 2022 Argentinian protest is an ongoing protest in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, thousands of protesters urging the government not to sign a loan revision agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Argentine government is in talks with the IMF to review a 44 billion deal. The loan was taken in 2018 when Mauricio Macri was president and signed a 57 billion loan agreement, the largest loan in IMF history. 44 billion has been paid, but President Alberto Fernández, who took over the presidency in 2020, has refused to make further payments and has called for a renegotiation of the debt. Under the current agreement, 19 billion will have to be paid in the next two years, 2022 and 2023. (en)
