- A gubernatorial election was held across the province of North Kalimantan on 8 December 2015, to elect the province's governor for the 2016-2021 five-year term. There were two pairs contesting the election, and who had previously taken a temporary post as the province's governor defeated former Tarakan mayor Jusuf Serang Kasim. The election was first to be held in North Kalimantan, which is Indonesia's youngest province. Following the voting, riots occurred in the provincial capital of Tanjungselor protesting the results. - Pemilihan Umum Gubernur Kalimantan Utara 2015 (selanjutnya disebut Pilkada Kaltara 2015 atau Pilgub Kaltara 2015) adalah pemilihan umum untuk memilih Gubernur dan Wakil Gubernur Kalimantan Utara periode 2016 - 2021. Pemilihan kepala daerah pertama di Kalimantan Utara ini diselenggarakan oleh Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) Provinsi Kalimantan Utara yang dilaksanakan pada 9 Desember 2015. Terdapat dua pasang kandidat yang bertarung pada pilgub Kaltara 2015, yaitu Irianto Lambrie dan Udin Hianggio yang diusung oleh Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS), Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan (PDIP), Partai Amanat Nasional (PAN), Partai Bulan Bintang (PBB), Partai Demokrat, Partai Golkar, dan Partai Gerindra; serta Jusuf SK dan Marthin Billa yang diusung oleh Partai Hati Nurani Rakyat (Hanura), Partai Nasional Demokrat (NasDem), Partai Keadilan dan Persatuan Indonesia (PKPI), dan Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB).
