- The municipal elections of the canton of San José, capital of Costa Rica, of 2006 were held on December 3 of that year. This process was the second occasion in the modern history of the country where elections were held for the election of the capital's mayor. San José, besides being the capital of the country, is the most populated canton. The incumbent Mayor Johnny Araya Monge of the National Liberation Party (PLN) opted for reelection. His main rival was doctor Arturo Robles Arias of the Citizen Action Party (PAC), a political group that in the canton had obtained the majority of votes for his presidential ballot in the previous presidential elections held in February 2006, which were very polarized among the PLN and PAC candidates. Araya won with 68% of the votes. The PLN also obtained all the disputed syndics of the districts of San Jose and the majority of councilors in the District Councils, even though the PAC obtained representation of councilors in all the districts. - Las elecciones municipales del cantón de San José, capital de Costa Rica, de 2006 se realizaron el 3 de diciembre de ese año. Dicho proceso fue la segunda ocasión en la historia moderna del país en que se realizaron comicios para la elección del alcalde capitalino. San José, además de capital del país, es el cantón más poblado. El alcalde incumbente Johnny Araya Monge del Partido Liberación Nacional optó por la reelección. Su principal rival fue el médico Arturo Robles Arias del Partido Acción Ciudadana, agrupación política que en el cantón había obtenido mayoría de votos por su papeleta presidencial en las recientes elecciones presidenciales realizadas en febrero de 2006, las cuales fueron muy polarizadas entre los candidatos del PLN y del PAC. Araya venció con 68% de los votos. El PLN obtuvo también todos los síndicos que se disputaban de los distritos de San José y mayoría de concejales en los Concejos de Distritos, aun cuando el PAC obtuvo representación de concejales en todos los distritos.
