- The 2000 CECAFA Cup was the 24th edition of the football tournament, which involves teams from Southern and Central Africa. The matches were played in Uganda, a decision which Tanzania protested, but to no avail. Tanzania were also banned from international football by FIFA, the world football governing body. The matches were played from 18 November to 2 December 2000. Prior to the tournament, Djibouti withdrew due to monetary difficulties, but re-entered. Sudan and Zanzibar also withdrew, but stayed out. The reasoning behind their withdrawal was unknown. Nine teams entered the tournament, as opposed to the twelve teams competing at the previous tournament in 1999. However, there were only eight different nations competing in the tournament as Uganda entered two teams: Uganda (A) and Uganda (B). Uganda (A) was in Group A, and Uganda (B) was in Group B, enabling the two the correct set-up to be able to meet each other in the final, as occurred here. Both Ugandas topped their respective groups, and progressed to the knockout stages along with Ethiopia and Rwanda. Uganda (A) beat Rwanda, and Uganda (B) beat Ethiopia to mean that "the Cranes" (Uganda [A]) and "the Lions" (Uganda (B)) would meet in the final. In the final, Uganda (A) captained by of Express, won 2–0. Ethiopia finished third after beating Rwanda on penalties 4–2 after the match finished 0–0. (en)

- La Coupe CECAFA des nations 2000 est la vingt-quatrième édition de la Coupe CECAFA des nations qui a eu lieu en Ouganda du 18 novembre au 2 décembre 2000. Les nations membres de la CECAFA (Confédération d'Afrique centrale et de l'Est) sont invitées à participer à la compétition. La finale est particulière puisqu'elle voit le pays hôte, l'Ouganda, s'imposer face à son équipe B, parvenue à ce stade après avoir gagné tous ses matchs en poule puis battu l'Éthiopie en demi-finales. Les Antilopes Walya montent sur la troisième marche du podium. C'est le huitième titre de champion de la CECAFA pour les Ougandais. À l'origine, la compétition devait compter douze participants et voir son premier tour modifié (quatre poules de trois équipes). Cependant, après le tirage au sort, Djibouti déclare forfait pour raisons financières avant de se raviser, la Tanzanie est suspendue par la FIFA et les sélections du Soudan et de Zanzibar se désistent pour une raison indéterminée. Het toernooi duurde van 18 november tot en met 2 december 2000 en werd gehouden in Oeganda. Omdat een aantal landen zich terugtrokken deden er 9 landen mee in plaats van de 12 op het vorige toernooi. Het thuisland Oeganda deed met 2 teams mee, een A-team en een B-team. Oeganda was uiteindelijk ook dubbel succesvol omdat beide teams de finale bereikten. Het A-team won in de finale met 2–0.
