- The 1986 Full Members' Cup final was a football match which took place at Wembley Stadium on 23 March 1986. It was the final of the inaugural Full Members' Cup, the competition created in the wake of the 1985 ban on English clubs from European competitions following the Heysel disaster. Contested between First Division sides Chelsea and Manchester City, the game produced nine goals, with Chelsea prevailing 5–4. Chelsea had led 5–1 courtesy of David Speedie's hat-trick and a brace by Colin Lee, but Manchester City scored three times in the last five minutes to give them a scare. Rougvie's own goal, the result of a shot by City's Lillis, denied Lillis the consolation of having scored the fastest hat trick in Wembley history at that point. Both clubs had played First Division games the previous day; Chelsea a 1–0 victory over Southampton, Manchester City a 2–2 draw with local rivals Manchester United. У «Манчестер Сити» был на этот день запланирован матч чемпионата против «Оксфорд Юнайтеда», который проиграл «Челси» в финале южной половины сетки кубка. «Оксфорд» отказался переносить матч на другой день, Футбольная лига пошла навстречу «Оксфорду» и перенесла финал Кубка полноправных членов на среду 19 марта. С этим решением не согласился председатель «Сити» , утверждая что матч в выходной день привлечёт больше зрителей и будет более выгоден с финансовой точки зрения. В итоге было принято решение провести матч 23 марта, в воскресенье, несмотря на то, что у обеих команд-финалисток были игры чемпионата 22 марта. Суэлс оказался прав, но из около 70 тысяч пришедших на игру зрителей, 60 тысяч поддерживали «Челси». Счёт открыли футболисты «Сити» на 10-й минуте, когда подставился под удар Мика Маккарти, но затем «Челси» повели 5:1 благодаря хет-трику Дэвида Спиди и дублю Колина Ли. Хет-трик Спиди стал первым на стадионе «Уэмбли» за 20 лет, после трёх мячей Джеффри Херста в ворота сборной ФРГ в финале чемпионата мира 1966 года.
