- Sezóna 1975/1976 byl 4. ročníkem World Hockey Association. Po třech sezónách, ve které se liga rozrostla z 12 na 14 účastníků ligy, šli do nové sezóny s velkými nadějemi. Chicago Cougars a Baltimore Blades opustili soutěž kvůli problémům. Jejich místa zaujali Cincinnati Stingers a Denver Spurs. Zatímco Cincinnati se na účast připravovalo už nějakou dobu, Denver se na sezonu připravoval narychlo. V Denveru spousta věcí nešla podle plánu. Aby zachránil klub, tým se na přelomu roku přestěhoval do Ottawy (Ottawa Civics, ale krátce nato se tým vzdal účasti. Liga tím byla otřesena a nedokázal zachránit ani tým Minnesota Fighting Saints, který byl nadprůměrný jak atleticky, tak divácky. Houston Aeros nedokázali obhájit svůj třetí titul v řadě. Ve finále Avco World Trophy prohráli s Winnipeg Jets, který jasně zvítězili 4-0. 4 123 121 diváků sledovalo 532 zápasů čtvrté sezóny. V průměru to bylo 7 750 na zápas, což byl další nárůst ve srovnání s předchozí sezónou. V NHL do té doby počet diváků klesl na zhruba 12 644. (cs)
- The 1975–76 WHA season was the fourth season of the World Hockey Association. After the Baltimore Blades and Chicago Cougars folded, the league stayed at 14 teams by adding the Cincinnati Stingers and Denver Spurs. In addition, the Vancouver Blazers franchise moved to Calgary and became the Cowboys. Midway through the season, the Spurs moved to Ottawa and became the Civics, though the team folded shortly thereafter when the sale of the franchise fell through. The Minnesota Fighting Saints became the second team to fold mid-season when the franchise was not financially successful, despite having a winning record at the time. Theoretically, fourteen teams would play 80 games each, but only twelve teams finished the season, with cancelled games involving the Civics or Saints being rescheduled on the fly, and four of five Canadian Division teams played 81 games, as a result. Mit den Chicago Cougars und den Baltimore Blades waren zwei Teams, die in der abgelaufenen Spielzeit in Schwierigkeiten gekommen waren, aufgelöst worden. Ihre Plätze wurden von den Cincinnati Stingers und den Denver Spurs eingenommen. Während man sich in Cincinnati schon länger auf die Teilnahme vorbereitet hatte, wurde in Denver überhastet die Saison vorbereitet. In Denver lief dann auch vieles nicht nach Plan. Um das Franchise zu retten, zog das Team zum Jahreswechsel noch kurz nach Ottawa um, doch kurze Zeit später gab das Team auf. Hiervon gebeutelt war die Liga auch nicht in der Lage das Team der Minnesota Fighting Saints zu retten. Mit den Saints verlor die Liga ein Team, das sowohl sportlich aber auch vom Zuschauerzuspruch überdurchschnittlich erfolgreich war. Den Houston Aeros gelang die dritte Titelverteidigung in Folge nicht. In den Finalspielen um die Avco World Trophy unterlagen sie den Winnipeg Jets. Sie setzten sich klar mit 4–0 durch. 4.123.121 Zuschauer sahen die 532 Spiele der vierten Saison. Im Schnitt waren das 7.750 pro Spiel, was eine weitere Steigerung zur Vorsaison bedeutete. La stagione regolare iniziò il 9 ottobre 1975 e si concluse il 6 aprile 1976, mentre i playoff dell'Avco World Trophy terminarono il 16 maggio 1976. L'All-Star Game della WHA si disputò a Cleveland fra una selezione di giocatori delle franchigie canadesi contro una formata da atleti delle formazioni statunitensi; la sfida fu vinta dalla selezione canadese per 6-1. I Winnipeg Jets sconfissero gli Houston Aeros nella finale dell'Avco World Trophy per 4-0, conquistando il primo titolo della loro storia. Nell'estate del 1975 si sciolsero sia i Baltimore Blades che i Chicago Cougars, tuttavia il numero di squadre iscritte rimase invariato a quattordici grazie alla creazione dei Cincinnati Stingers e al trasferimento dei Denver Spurs dalla CHL. Altro cambiamento prima dell'inizio della stagione fu il trasferimento della franchigia dei Vancouver Blazers a Calgary dove assunsero il nome di Cowboys. Le formazioni furono divise in tre divisioni: una con squadre canadesi e due statunitensi suddivise fra costa est e ovest. A metà della stagione regolare gli Spurs si trasferirono a Ottawa e diventarono i Civics, tuttavia la nuova franchigia si sciolse quasi immediatamente lasciando la lega con una squadra in meno. Poche settimane più tardi furono invece i Minnesota Fighting Saints a dover cessare le attività nonostante un record positivo. La lega riformulò immediatamente il calendario per completare la stagione regolare delle dodici squadre rimaste, tuttavia alcune di loro disputarono 81 incontri rispetto agli 80 previsti. (it)

Av de fjorton lagen som inledde säsongen spelade fyra av de 81 matcher, åtta spelade 80 matcher, Minnesota Fighting Saints 59 matcher och Denver Spurs 34 matcher samt Ottawa Civics sju matcher. Efter säsongsavslutningen följdes ett slutspel med spel om Avco World Trophy. Säsongen inleddes den 9 oktober 1975 och avslutades den 6 april 1976. Winnipeg Jets vann Avco World Trophy efter finalseger mot de två senaste säsongernas vinnare Houston Aeros med 4-0 i matcher. Quebec Nordiques-spelaren Marc Tardif vann poängligan på 148 poäng, 71 mål + 77 assist. Denver Spurs spelade sin första säsong i ligan, men laget drog lite publik på hemmamatcherna och fick ekonomiska problem, vilket gjorde att ägaren sålde laget till kanadensiska ägare. Så den 2 januari 1976 flyttade laget till Ottawa i Kanada och döptes om till Ottawa Civics. Men efter bara sju matcher, varav sex förluster i Ottawa, hade de nya ägarna problem att betala den gamla ägaren. Så efter bara två veckor I Ottawa upplöstes laget och lades ned den 17 januari. Totalt spelade Denver och Ottawa tillsammans 41 matcher. Även Minnesota Fighting Saints, som hade gått till slutspel de tre första säsongerna, drog sig ur ligan den 27 februari på grund av ekonomiska problem med anledning av sviktande publiksiffror. Klubben hade då spelat 59 matcher under säsongen. Inför säsongen hade Vancouver Blazers flyttat från British Columbia till Alberta och döpts om till Calgary Cowboys. Ligan såg även ett helt nytt lag då även Cincinnati Stingers blev medlem av WHA från och med säsongen 1975/1976. Säsongens två målrikaste matcher var Toronto Toros inblandade i, och båda slutade med 19 gjorda mål: Den 13 november spelade Toronto hemma mot Denver Spurs och vann med 11-8, och den 30 november spelade Toronto hemma mot Cleveland Crusaders och förlorade med 9-10. Säsongens största hemmavinst stod Winnipeg Jets för när de den 26 november besegrade Cincinnati Stingers med 11-3, och den största bortasegern tog Phoenix Roadrunners den 27 december när de vann borta mot Denver med 10-0.
