- Die 60. Auflage der Wimbledon Championships fand 1946 auf dem Gelände des All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club an der Church Road statt. Es war zunächst unsicher, ob das Turnier bereits in diesem Jahr wieder aufgenommen werden könnte. Der Center Court war durch einen Bombentreffer schwer beschädigt worden, der 1.200 Sitzplätze zerstört hatte. Auch waren Nahrungsmittel, Kleidung und Benzin noch rationiert. Doch schließlich gelang es, ein Turnier mit Spielern aus 23 Ländern auf die Beine zu stellen. In diesem Jahr wurde keine Qualifikation gespielt. (de)
- The 1946 Wimbledon Championships took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. The tournament was held from Monday 24 June until Saturday 6 July 1946. It was the 60th staging of the Wimbledon Championships and the first one held after a six-year break due to World War II. In 1946 and 1947 Wimbledon was held before the French Championships and was thus the second Grand Slam tennis event of the year. The Wimbledon Championships would take place every year until 2019, a span of 74 consecutive years before the event would be cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (en)

Voor de vrouwen was het de 53e editie van het Engelse graskampioenschap. Het toernooi werd gespeeld bij de All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in de wijk Wimbledon van de Engelse hoofdstad Londen. Deze editie was de eerste sinds zeven jaar, na zes jaren onderbreking door de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Anders dan gebruikelijk werd het vóór Roland Garros gehouden.
