- تعلم طبي مستمر هو شكل خاص من أشكال التعليم المستمر والذي يساعد العاملين في المجال الطبي من المحافظة على قدراتهم ومهاراتهم الطبية وكذلك يساعدهم على تعلم كل ما هو جديد في المجالات والنواحي الطبية التي تتطور وتتقدم بسرعة مما يوجب على الكوادر الطبية مواكبة هذا التقدم. النشاطات التي يشملها هذا النوع من التعليم تضم: 1.
* اللقاءات العلمية 2.
* ورش العمل 3.
* نشر الأوراق العلمية 4.
* الصوتيات والمرئيات الطبية 5.
* الدورات الطبية عبر الأنترنت ويقوم بوضع المحتوي العلمي لهذه الأنشطة مجموعات من الخبراء في المجالات والتخصصات الطبية المختلفة، ولكن تبقى في النهاية مشكلة العلاقة بين الرعاية المالية لهذه النشاطات وبين القائمين على تنظيمها، حيث غالباً ما يقوم المصنعين للأجهزة الطبية أو الأدوية بالتسويق لمنتجاتهم خلال هذه الأنشطة. - Continuing medical education (CME) is continuing education (CE) that helps those in the medical field maintain competence and learn about new and developing areas of their field. These activities may take place as live events, written publications, online programs, audio, video, or other electronic media. Content for these programs is developed, reviewed, and delivered by faculty who are experts in their individual clinical areas. Similar to the process used in academic journals, any potentially conflicting financial relationships for faculty members must be both disclosed and resolved in a meaningful way. However, critics complain that drug and device manufacturers often use their financial sponsorship to bias CMEs towards marketing their own products. (en)

Weitergefasst wird der Begriff als so genannte „Kontinuierliche berufliche Entwicklung“ . Die Fortbildungsmaßnahmen dienen dem Erhalt und der dauerhaften Aktualisierung der fachlichen Kompetenz der Ärzteschaft. CME ist damit eine Maßnahme zur medizinischen Qualitätssicherung. (de)
- La formation médicale continue ou FMC est l’équivalent du terme américain « Continuing medical education » (CME), les États-Unis ayant initié la discipline.Il s’agit d’une formation continue qui s’acquiert après le diplôme, au cours de l’exercice professionnel, par opposition à la formation initiale reçue en faculté au cours des études. Indispensable dans bien des métiers, mais particulièrement nécessaire dans les professions de santé en raison de l’évolution de plus en plus rapide des connaissances et des techniques, la formation continue en médecine s’impose dans le principe à tout praticien par le code de déontologie qui énonce que le médecin doit dispenser « des soins consciencieux et fondés sur les données acquises de la science » et plus précisément en son article 11 (reprenant l'art. R.4127-11 du code de la santé publique) : « Tout médecin doit entretenir et perfectionner ses connaissances ; il doit prendre toutes dispositions nécessaires pour participer à des actions de formation continue. Tout médecin participe à l'évaluation des pratiques professionnelles. » Aux États-Unis, les 50 états ont établi des obligations de formation continue.En Europe, chaque pays a formulé ses propres exigences dans ce domaine. - Educazione continua in medicina (ECM) è un programma nazionale di attività formative, attivo in Italia dal 2002.L'ECM prevede il mantenimento di un elevato livello di conoscenze relative alla teoria, pratica e comunicazione in campo sanitario. Il programma è stato adottato da tutti i maggiori Paesi del mondo. In Italia è obbligatorio per tutti i professionisti della sanità con il fine di mantenersi aggiornati e competenti.Il programma ECM comprende l'insieme di organizzazione e controllo delle attività formative di chiunque lo desideri effettuare, da società scientifiche a fondazioni, a reparti, università ed associazioni.
