It is situated on the north Norfolk coast some 2 km (1.2 mi) west of the village of Brancaster, 9 km (5.6 mi) north-east of the seaside resort of Hunstanton, 30 km (19 mi) north of the town of King's Lynn and 70 km (43 mi) north-west of the city of Norwich. The villages name means 'Young goat spring/stream'. The village is renowned for its RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh, an area of salt and freshwater marsh that extends along the coast towards Brancaster.
